TALLAHASSEE, FL – February 10, 2020 – Robert Bowen, a recycle truck driver in Waste Pro’s Tallahassee Division, is among 13 people honored by Tallahassee Community College in its annual Cherry Hall Alexander African-American History Calendar.

The theme of this year’s calendar is “A Vote of Confidence” and features Tallahassee residents who have exhibited leadership in the Big Bend region. Residents along Bowen’s route in Leon County nominated him for this honor.

Bowen, who has worked for Waste Pro since 2009, gets up at 5 a.m. every day to begin his route, “always with a smile on my face,” he said. He is committed to educating the residents along his route about recycling and providing exceptional service.

“It gets tough at times, but just to see a customer’s smiling face, that really brightens my day.”

Over the last 10+ years with Waste Pro, Bowen has gotten to know his residents well. He takes the time to listen to senior citizens who have concerns about recycling, say hi to children waving at him in his truck, and even play with pets that run over to him while he collects a resident’s recycling.

“I get along with everybody,” Bowen said.

At home, Bowen is a proud father of six children and grandfather to 14 – some of whom, he said, have shown an interest in following in his footsteps.

“I’m just trying to keep up with the grandbabies,” he said with a laugh. “But as long as I can get my job done, I can get home and relax with them. They keep me excited for the next day.”
