Industry Sees Recycling Changes Worldwide

Because of highly restrictive policies enacted by China in 2017, more and more recycling is ending up in landfills. The Chinese government has drastically cut down what kinds of recyclable materials it will import, and slashed the contamination (trash mixed in with recycling) limit to just 0.3%. In the United States, the limit is two percent. The reductions in China mean a large amount of Americans’ recycling is ending up in landfills because China won’t accept it, and there are no other markets that can take it instead.
