LONGWOOD, FL – November 4th – During a Commission meeting for the City of Trenton held on October 14th, garbage truck driver Kevin Griffin received his second $10,000 Safety Award, earned for flawless performance over the last three years.

The award was presented by several members of the Waste Pro Team including, Regional Vice President, Keith Banasiak; Municipal Marketing Manager, Dayna Miller; and Division Manager Darren Matthews. Additionally, several City Commissioners took part in the day’s ceremony including Commissioner Randy Rutter, Commissioner Everritt Heaton, Commissioner Marcia Hellams, and Commissioner Tim Kinsey, along with Mayor Glen Thigpen.

Griffin, a Dixie County resident, has been a part of the Waste Pro team since 2008 and currently serves as a residential collection driver.

In an industry where more than 6,000 accidents involving a solid waste truck occur every year, safety is paramount.  In an effort to reduce the number of such incidents and reward employees for responsible behaviors, Waste Pro instituted the first, $10,000 Safety Award in 2004.

Unique to the waste collection and disposal industry, Waste Pro’s Safety Program has distributed close to $1 million in Safety Awards to their drivers, since the program’s creation.

In order to receive the Safety Award, employees must have a spotless work record for three years, including excellent customer service, no accidents, injuries, or property damage, and they must maintain a positive attitude and attendance record, along with a well-kept truck.

John J. Jennings, President/CEO of Waste Pro USA, stated, “Not many people realize what a difficult job this is and Kevin seems to make it look easy.  Those who have received this honor exemplify what Waste Pro is all about. At Waste Pro, safety is paramount and I look forward to distributing many more of these awards.”
