Frequently Asked Questions

1. When does the new program start?

New services begin July 1, 2011.

2. What time of the day will my trash be picked up?

Collections start at 7:00 am and will continue throughout the day. Carts should be placed next to the curb with the front of the container facing the road.

3. What is my service day?

When you receive your carts, information will be provided with your specific service days. You will receive twice weekly collection of your garbage, once weekly collection of recyclables, and every other week collection of yard waste. Bulk items will be picked up within three days of the request.

4. Why do I have two carts?

One container is for your normal household garbage; remember not to place any hazardous waste such as pesticides and chemicals in the cart. These may be disposed of directly at the Santa Rosa County Central Landfill. The other container is for recycling newspaper, glass beverage containers and jars, aluminum and steel cans and plastic products labeled with the numbers 1-7 on the bottom.

5. I have some old car tires. Can I put these with my trash?

The service being provided does not include pick up of tires. Please contact the Santa Rosa County Central Landfill for proper disposal options.

6. I have a bulky item such as a large refrigerator, how do I get this picked up?

Refrigerators and other large appliances require special pick up. Please call our office at 850-365-1900 to schedule a pick up. Small items like shelves, box fans, and small furniture will be picked up with your regular trash. Place these items next to your cart on collection day.

7. I am adding an addition onto my house. Can I place the construction debris out for collect?

Construction and demolition debris is not included in the program. You may call our office to arrange for a dumpster at an additional charge or you may haul the debris to the landfill.
