MATTHEWS, NC April 24, 2023– Matthews Town Council voted unanimously to contract solid waste, recycling, and yard waste collection with Waste Pro. Starting July 1, 2023, Residents of Matthews will receive a new 96-gallon residential solid waste cart.
In addition to once-per-week solid waste collection, residential service will include bi-weekly single stream recycling with a 96-gallon cart, weekly curbside yard waste removal, and on-call scheduled weekly curbside bulk waste removal. Bulk waste collection service can be scheduled and pay for in advance by calling Waste Pro at 980-325-3640.
Waste Pro will distribute information regarding service schedules, containers, and placement to residents in the coming weeks. The Waste Pro facility, located at 1902 Valley Parkway in Monroe, NC, manages the collection services.

Yard Waste – how to prepare my yard waste for collection?
Household Yard Waste is collected once per week curbside.
Yard Waste, which is composed of grass clippings, leaves, tree limbs (small caliber) and shrubbery trimmings. Collection of yard waste shall include removal of all yard waste material that is properly prepared by the customer. Check out the link for more information about yard waste CLICK HERE.
Will my containers change?
New 96-gallon trash carts will be provided by Waste Pro.
Each Resident will receive one cart for solid waste and will continue to use your existing cart for recyclables.
Where do I put my new containers for pick-up?
Carts should be placed curbside, with the handle facing your house, 3 feet from vehicles, shrubs, hydrants, mailboxes, and other carts, etc.
Do not block sidewalks or place carts in the street.
Roll out carts by 7 AM and roll them in by midnight, on your designated pick-up day.

Residential Solid Waste Collection (Garbage)
Waste Pro provides collection and disposal service for all household trash and garbage generated from residential customers which has been properly prepared and stored.
Please place your household garbage curbside the night before your scheduled collection day or by 7 a.m. on the day of your scheduled service.
Collection Days:
Household Garbage (solid waste) is collected one (1) time per week. For your collection day information CLICK HERE.
Solid Waste:
- Use the Waste Pro Green Cart with the Blue lid for garbage ONLY.
- Bag ALL garbage before placing it in cart.
- Cart contents only. Garbage will not be collected outside of cart with exception of the weeks following Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

YARD WASTE COLLECTION
Household Yard Waste is collected once per week curbside.
Yard Waste, which is composed of grass clippings, leaves, tree limbs (small caliber) and shrubbery trimmings. Collection of yard waste shall include removal of all yard waste material that is properly prepared by the customer.
- Collect up to twenty (20) paper lawn/leaf bags per household each week. Such bags shall be paper in product and no larger than 30-gallons. Each bag placed out for collection may weigh no more than forty (40) pounds.
- Limbs -shall be cut in four (4) feet lengths, three (3) feet height, stacked and no more than three (3) stacks. Diameter not to exceed five (5) inches. Tree trunks, stumps, root balls and firewood will not be collected.
- Christmas trees, garland, and wreaths until February 1st. To be collected, these items must be stripped of all wires, lights, ornaments, or any other inorganic material and placed at the curb.
- No collection of yard waste from businesses or resulting from the operation of any businesses or commercial endeavors including businesses conducted from or in a residential unit.
Bulk Waste Collection
Household items that are too large to fit into your curbside solid waste cart. Non-spoilable items may include furniture, couches, tables, chairs, clothing, mattress, and box springs.
